Biography of Ms. Barbara M. De Groot:

Barbara is a University of Missouri Kansas City student pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice. Improving Fall Risk Assessment to Reduce Falls in Assisted Living Communities is her nursing research project, which aims to lower falls among elderly people. At Carrington College in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Barbara teaches nursing courses. Her thirty years of nursing experience include acute, hospice, and home health nursing; teaching in ADN and BSN programs in California and New Mexico; and staff and patient education. Her favorite subject matter for teaching is medical/surgical nursing, with a concentration on orthopedic and geriatric nursing in particular. Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Albuquerque citizens, Barbara is a founding member of Albuquerque Women for Good.

Barbara has earned certifications from the American Nurse Credentialing Center as a Board-Certified Care Manager and the National League for Nursing as a Certified Nurse Educator. She belongs to the Midwest Nursing Research Society, the American Assisted Living Nurses Association, the Lambda Phi and Omicron Delta chapters of Sigma, the Delta Epsilon Tau Honor Society, and the Lambda Phi and Omicron Delta chapters of Sigma. Barbara likes spending time with her family and friends, gardening, and cooking when she isn’t instructing or giving a conference presentation.
